Students compete in local Spelling Bee

 

The Logan Spelling Bee was held on Monday, Jan. 21 with 26 spellers competing.  After four rounds 11 spellers remained:  4th graders Brayton Woods, Emma Traxler, Taden Gottschalk; 5th grader Austin Leanna; 6th graders Kaitlyn Alexander, Kendra Alexander, Ryan Prewo, Rhett Kats, Tye West; 7th grader Grayci White; and 8th grader Jersey Voss.  In Round 5, Brayton, Kaitlyn, Kendra, and Jersey were eliminated.   Rhett, Austin, and Tye all tied for 5th place as they went out in Round 6.  After Round 7, 4th place went to Grayci.  Ryan received 3rd place at the end of Round 8.  Taden and Emma then battled 4 more rounds until Emma was crowned champion when she correctly spelled “mockingly” and “furled”.  Other students participating in this year’s Bee were Mara Kats, Cydnee Rider, Hailey McClurg, Kylee Uhland, Caleb Sparks, Graci Bliss, Kaden Graham, Stanley DeWitt, Mayson Vahling, Collin Sparks, Gavin Gottschalk, Cora Ashmore, Buster States, William Knowles, and Case Ashmore.  The County Spelling Bee will be held in Agra at Thunder Ridge Middle School on Jan. 30 at 9:00 AM.  Congratulations to champion Emma Traxler and runner-up Taden Gottschalk!
