Logan boys and girls fall at Sub-State

It was a big week of basketball as the Trojans traveled to Beloit for the Class 1A Div II Sub-State basketball tournament.  Both Logan boys and girls were seeded #2, giving them first-round byes.  The boys started their play on Thursday, Mar. 3 as they took on #3 seeded Thunder Ridge.

The Longhorns were looking for revenge after losing to the Trojans by 1 point 3 weeks prior.  Both teams came out tough with a 10-11 1st quarter score, then the Trojans held the Longhorns to just a bucket in the 2nd as they scored 17 of their own including a momentous 2-handed dunk from senior Kylor Hogan that brought the Trojan fans to their feet.  The Trojans maintained their lead throughout the rest of the game with a 49-33 win.  The seniors took charge in the game with Ty Kats tallying 13 points, Kylor Hogan with 9, Josh Uhland and freshman Rhett Kats each had 8.  In the rebounding department, Dylan Van Laeys pulled down 12 boards with Jadin Newell grabbing 8.

The Lady Trojans took their turn at #3 seeded Thunder Ridge on Friday.  Almost a repeat from the boys game, the Trojans were down 10-14 after the 1st quarter buzzer, and then held the Longhorns to 8 points while they racked up 21 in the 2nd quarter.  The Trojans finished the game with a score of 54-38, giving them a ticket into the championship match.  Sophomore Ansley Delimont stepped up to the challenge and scored 15, while senior Kirsten Marcotte, junior Madi Brackney and sophomore Cydnee Rider each scored 8.  Sophomore Mara Kats pulled down 8 boards with senior Rylee Delimont and senior Abby Graham each nabbing 6.

Back in Beloit on Saturday for the championship matches, Logan was set to play Northern Valley for the fourth time this season.  Down by 9 at halftime, the Trojans fought their way back in the 4th quarter, but just couldn't put down their free throws and lost 58-62.  Three seniors scored in double digits - Ty Kats with 20, Kylor Hogan and Dylan Van Laeys with 10 each.  Dylan grabbed 19 rebounds and blocked 2 shots, while Hogan blocked 3.  The boys ended their season with a 15-7 record.  Dylan Van Laeys and Ty Kats ended the season with 366 and 326 points respectively, and Van Laeys contributed 328 rebounds averaging 14.9 per game.

After a tough loss to the boys, the Lady Trojans tried to motivate their team as they warmed up for their championship match against #1 seeded St. John's/Beloit.  The Logan Ladies were cold starting the game only scoring 4 points in the first quarter with the Bluejays scoring 14.  The Bluejays extended their lead throughout the rest of the game winning with a 56-21 score.  The Trojans ended 10-12 on the season.

At this time of writing, the Logan girls stats have not been entered.
