Trojans pick up over Western Plains/Healy and Natoma
Making the trek to Healy on Tuesday, Jan. 18, the Logan/Palco Trojans took on Western Plains/Healy in varsity games. Both teams struggled to add points to the board in the girls' action with a low-scoring first quarter of 4-4. The Trojans hit the bucket a few more times in the second quarter and headed to the locker room at halftime with a score of 15-6. They extended their lead throughout the rest of the game and ended with the 28-10 win. Senior Abby Graham led the team with 15 points and 6 boards while sophomore Mara Kats scored 5 and pulled down 16 rebounds. Sophomore Ansley Delimont added 4 assists.
On the boys side, the Trojans squeaked by with a 3-point lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 13 by halftime. They continued to outscore their opponents in the second half and won 54-31. Senior Ty Kats led the charge with 25 points and 5 steals. Senior Josh Uhland followed with 10 points. Senior Kylor Hogan added 4 blocks.
The Trojans hosted a make-up game against Natorma on Friday, Jan. 21 in Palco. The JV girls took the court for 2 quarters of play which the Trojans won handily. There was not a JV boys game. After an evenly matched first quarter in the varsity girls game, the Trojans pulled ahead in the second and outscored the Tigers 20-4 in the third. The Lady Trojans earned their second win of the week with a final score of 50-28. Three girls scored in double digits for the Trojans, junior Madi Brackney with 13, senior Rylee Delimont with 12 and senior Kirsten Marcotte with 11.
With only 5 boys on the Natoma roster, the Trojans took care of business from the start and led 22-6 in the first quarter. They never looked back as they finished the game 61-25. Senior Dylan Van Laeys shot a perfect 10 for 10 from the field for 100% accuracy and ended the night with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Senior Ty Kats followed with 17 points and 4 steals. Senior Kylor Hogan pulled down 8 rebounds and senior Jadin Newell added 4 assists.
Next action for the Trojans will be Tuesday, Jan. 25 as they travel to Atwood. They will be back in Palco on Friday, Jan. 28 against Triplains/Brewster. (Photos by senior Camille Gottschalk.)
