Hannah Brumbaugh wins local Spelling Bee

The Logan School Spelling Bee was held on January 18 in the auditorium.  Thirty-nine spellers took part in the competition. Mrs. Jansonius welcomed everyone to the spelling bee and went over the rules.  Mr. Kirkendall was the pronouncer, Mrs. Hendryx and Mrs. Kats were the judges, Mrs. Brown was the protest judge, and Mr. Jansonius was the videographer.  After Round 6, nine spellers remained.  They were 4th graders Conner Gottschalk, Aleeah Tien, and Brently Ebner, 5th grader Zoe Benton, 6th graders Daphne Hermanson, Kinley VanDerVeen and Henry States, 7th grader Weston Ruff, and 8th grader Hannah Brumbaugh.  Tying for 9th place, Daphne and Brently were eliminated in round seven.  Weston, Conner, and Aleeah all tied for 6th place going out in round 8.  Zoe and Jayla were eliminated in round 10, tying for 4th place.  Henry missed in round 11 giving him 3rd place.  Hannah and Kinley battled for five more rounds correctly spelling such words as “bamboozled”, “voracious”, and “amphitheater”.  Hannah spelled “thorax” and “sausage” to ultimately be declared the champion.
