Lady Trojans fight for the win!

The Logan/Palco Trojans were on the road to Plainville in an abnormal Thursday night game on Jan. 12. The JV split their games with the girls taking a win and the boys suffering a loss.

In the thriller varsity girls game, every heart in the gym pounded along with the Cardinal band as the game came down to the wire. The Trojans led for most of the game and were leading by 6 at the end of the third qtr. The Cardinals took every ball to the rim in the 4th quarter as they slowly crept back into the game tying it up at 31 with 4:05 to play. A bucket by Ansley Delimont put the Trojans up by 2 with 2:25 remaining. Plainville tied it up again at 33 with :44 on the clock. Plainville’s Joslyn Johnson scored a free throw with 37 seconds. The score stood 34-35 with 10 seconds left on the clock. With the ball under their basket, Cydnee Rider inbounded the ball to senior Madi Brackney who shot and missed, grabbed her own rebound and scored. The Trojan crowd held their breath for the next 7 seconds as Plainville brought the ball down the court, shot and missed, giving the Trojans the 36-35 win. Junior Ansley Delimont scored a whopping 21 points with Madi Brackney following with 8 and junior Mikaela Merceri adding 6.

In the boys contest, Plainville jumped to the early lead and led for the first half until Cameron Morgan shot a 3 from the top of the key to end the 2nd quarter and put the Trojans up 22-21 at half. The Cardinals led in the second half, and with 2:28 left on the clock the Trojans were down 30-42. With a minute left and points from Ryan Prewo and Rhett Kats, the Trojans were only trailing by 6. Trying to get the ball back, the Trojans were forced to foul, sending the

Cardinals to the line which extended their lead. The game ended with a Trojan loss 39-47. Ethan Gashler scored his first double-double with 11 points and 12 Rebounds. Rhett Kats added 13 points.

With a quick turnaround, the Trojans were back on the road to Redford on Friday. With not enough players for JV girls, the JV boys started the night. Tired from the late night before, nothing seemed to go right for the Trojans, and they suffered the loss. This carried over into the varsity girls game as the basket seemed to have a lid on it, not allowing any shots to go in. The Lady Trojans took the loss with a large deficit.

On the boys side, the Trojans were able to take an early lead with a score of 37-13 late in the second quarter, and they extended that lead into the 3rd quarter. They finished the game 65-32. The leading scorers were Rhett Kats with 19 and 17 rebounds and Ryan Prewo with 13 points and 5 assists.

The Trojans will host Western Plains-Healy on Tuesday, Jan. 17 in Palco and will take the night off on Friday, Jan. 19.
