Course Description:

German II continues using a variety of approaches to introduce the student to the German language and culture.  New vocabulary to be taught is presented in context with an illustration to assist with comprehension.  Vocabulary exercises immediately following provide the opportunity to practice and use new words both orally and in written form.  Structure-drills and grammatical explanations insure additional practice and understanding.  Dialogues and readings convey important information on everyday life and culture of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.  Cultural notes (called Land und Leute) provide more concise in-depth information on similarities and differences between German-speaking cultures and that of the students.

Course Objectives:

  1. To expand the student’s present vocabulary of German words.
  2. To categorize new vocabulary words as being masculine, feminine, and neuter.
  3. To develop a more consistent use of various forms of verbs.
  4. To develop a more fluent use of common phrases in the German language.
  5. Demonstrate understanding of the nominative, accusative, and dative cases.
