Mayson Vahling wins local spelling bee

            The Logan School Spelling Bee was held on January 14 in the auditorium.  Thirty-six spellers took part in the competition. Mrs. Jansonius welcomed everyone to the spelling bee and went over the rules.  Mr. Kirkendall was the pronouncer, Mr. Gower and Mrs. Kiser were the judges, Mrs. Brown was the protest judge, and Mr. Jansonius was the videographer. 

            After Round 4, eleven spellers remained.  They were Mollie Griffin, Ryan Prewo, Austin Leanna, Rhett Kats, Taden Gottschalk, Weston Ruff, Jayla Traxler, Emma Traxler, Mayson Vahling, Case Ashmore, and Clay Grammon.  Weston and Clay were eliminated in Round 5, Mollie was eliminated in round 6, and Ryan was eliminated in Round 7.  Round 8 saw Austin, Rhett, Taden, Jayla, and Case eliminated, leaving just 6th grader Emma Traxler and 8th grader Mayson Vahling.  They battled for three more rounds until Mayson spelled “feta” to become the champion.  Congratulations to Champion Mayson Vahling and Runner-up Emma Traxler. 

            Other students participating in the spelling bee were 4th graders Keegan Breese, John Sparks, Jayce Wiltfong, Brecken Shellito, Clay Grammon, Kaydee Bolt, Hunter Vahling, Wyatt Green, Addie Ellenberger, Weston Ruff, Coda Ashmore, and Jeffery Bliss; 5th graders Easton Gottschalk, Jayla Traxler, Brennan Loyd-Counter, Jasper States, Jocelyn Leanna; 6th graders Cora Ashmore, Graci Bliss, Collin Sparks, Taden Gottschalk, Buster States, Brayton Woods, TyRay Snyder; 7th graders Mollie Griffin, Gavin Gottschalk, Case Ashmore, Austin Leanna; 8th graders Caleb Sparks, Ryan Prewo, Kaden Graham, Tye West, Kendra Alexander, Rhett Kats. 

            The County Spelling Bee will be on February 10 in the Logan Auditorium.
